KOMO-TEC KoBra Race ABS/ESP for Lotus Elise 2ZR, Exige V6 and 3-Eleven
The KOMO-TEC KoBra Race ABS/ESP combines modern motorsport technology with a high level of driving stability. The system is available as a model-specific plug-and-play solution for Lotus Elise with 2ZR engine, Exige V6, and 3-Eleven.
The KoBra Race ABS/ESP was originally developed as the first motorsport ABS/ESP specifically tuned for the Lotus Exige available on the market. Our many years of experience in motorsport, extensive vehicle knowledge, and feedback from professional drivers as well as numerous customers have directly contributed to the development and continuous optimization.
The system can be ideally combined with the KOMO-TEC KoBra-4-4 brake system, but can also be used with other suitable brake systems.
Road and racetrack in one system
The special feature of the KoBra Race ABS/ESP is the combination of different control strategies within one system:
Stability-oriented ABS/ESP tuning in road modes
Performance-oriented race ABS in race and off modes
Model-dependent adapted control strategies
Variable settings for different tire types
Integration of the standard Lotus controls and displays
This makes the system suitable for both sportily used road vehicles and ambitious track use.
Driving modes and control strategies
The existing Lotus-DPM driving modes are fully integrated into the system and functionally expanded. The exact functionality depends on the vehicle model and configuration.
| Driving mode | Characteristic |
|---|---|
| Tour/Road | Stability-oriented ABS and ESP control for road and adverse conditions |
| Sport | More dynamic tuning with extended driving dynamics freedom |
| Race | Performance-oriented racing ABS and motorsport-oriented ESP control |
| Off | Racing ABS with fully deactivatable ESP |
The settings can be adjusted to typical tire combinations such as street and rain tires, semi-slicks, or slicks.
High-precision motorsport ABS controller
The modern ABS controller calculates the optimal brake pressure every 5 milliseconds. The goal is to keep each wheel as close as possible to the maximum available power transfer within the µ-slip curve.
The system continuously considers changing wheel loads and different grip conditions between tires and road. This ensures that braking performance remains precisely controllable even in wet conditions, on bumps, crests, and during strong load changes.
Steering into a turn with active ABS control is supported just as much as braking over jumps, for example in the Pflanzgarten area on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. The Ice Mode known from the standard ABS with a hard brake pedal is effectively suppressed.
Depending on the tires, braking system, road surface, and vehicle setup, deceleration values of more than 2 g are possible.
Precise braking into the corner
When braking deeply into the corner, the KoBra Race ABS regulates the ratio between maximum available braking force and transferable lateral force. The typical understeer of the standard control is significantly reduced.
The vehicle remains steerable while braking and can be positioned more precisely at the corner entry. The driver can brake later and utilize the available tire grip more efficiently.
Motorsport ESP with extended limit range
The specially developed Motorsport ESP provides the driver with additional safety without restricting them through excessively early interventions. The control allows for larger drift angles and controlled powerslides, while still intervening stabilizingly in the event of an impending spin.
Strong and abrupt engine torque interventions are avoided. This keeps the drive torque directly controllable via the accelerator pedal. At the same time, necessary braking interventions occur much more smoothly and precisely than with the standard control.
For fast lap times, the ESP does not necessarily have to be completely deactivated.
EDS and traction control
The standard electronic limited-slip differential is no longer activated by the KoBra software. This relieves the rear brake and protects it from additional thermal stress.
For optimal traction, we recommend using a mechanical limited-slip differential.
The standard traction control is also no longer activated. This provides the driver with better acceleration and full access to the drive torque.
Fully integrated into the vehicle
The KoBra Race ABS/ESP is directly integrated into the ABS software and vehicle electronics of the respective Lotus model. The standard controls remain fully intact:
Original Lotus mode switch
Standard tachometer
Standard warning and indicator lights
Existing DPM driving modes
Communication via the vehicle's own CAN bus
An additional CAN gateway for signal manipulation or an external workaround is not required.
All vehicle dynamics relevant data is provided via the CAN bus and can be recorded with a suitable CAN logger. A CAN logger is not included.
Plug-and-play installation
The vehicle-specific design allows for a largely uncomplicated retrofit. All necessary brackets, adapters, and conversion components are included in the kit.
Only individual wires in the existing connector need to be repinned according to the installation instructions. In a qualified workshop, the installation time is approximately two hours, depending on the vehicle model and configuration.

An additional switch is retrofitted in the Lotus 3-Eleven. In conjunction with the specially adapted software, a complete ESP function is also available in this vehicle.
Proven technology with motorsport experience
By September 2022, 37 systems were already in use in Lotus Exige, Cup vehicles, 3-Eleven, and Elise Mk3. At that time, 25 systems were installed in the Exige alone.
The systems used up to this point operated without known complaints and achieved a correspondingly high level of customer satisfaction.
Lotus Cup Europe Approved
Since the 2021 season, the KOMO-TEC KoBra Race ABS has been officially approved for use in the Lotus Cup Europe.
A vehicle equipped with the system achieved first place in the Exige class in the 2022 season. This demonstrates the system's performance even under professional racing conditions.

Important installation note
The installation concerns the safety-relevant braking system and vehicle electronics. It may only be carried out by a suitably qualified specialist.
After installation, the braking system must be properly bled and all lines, connections, electrical functions, and driving modes must be checked. A functional test under safe conditions is then required.
Important approval note
Motorsport part – without general road approval!
A TÜV registration through individual acceptance is possible in our company. The costs incurred are to be borne by the buyer.
Use in public road traffic is only permitted after successful acceptance and registration.
