KOMO-TEC Plug-and-Play ECU Kit with ECUmaster EMU Pro16 for Lotus Exige V6 and Evora

The KOMO-TEC Plug-and-Play ECU Kit was developed for performance-enhanced Lotus Exige V6 and Evora. It connects the fully programmable ECUmaster EMU Pro16 engine control unit with a vehicle integration specifically developed by KOMO-TEC.

The system allows for individual control of all relevant engine parameters and provides the foundation for more power, higher torque, and significantly improved throttle response. At the same time, the essential comfort, display, and driving dynamics functions of the Lotus are retained.

Plug-and-Play Integration

The kit replaces the standard engine control unit and is connected directly to the existing engine wiring harness via a vehicle-specific adapter. Changes to the standard engine wiring harness are generally not required.

For installation, the stock control unit is removed, the lambda sensors are replaced, and the EMU-Pro16 control unit is mounted with the KT adapter.

The control unit is supplied with a base software that is suitable for the respective vehicle model. This allows for the basic commissioning of the engine. For performance-enhanced or technically modified vehicles, individual tuning is subsequently required.

The term Plug-and-Play refers to the mechanical and electrical integration. Installation, commissioning, testing, and programming require extensive knowledge in vehicle electronics and engine tuning.

More powerful than the EMU Black

The ECUmaster EMU Pro16 offers a significantly expanded range of functions compared to the previously used EMU Black.

Key improvements include:

  • Control of all four camshafts

  • Two wideband lambda controls

  • Separate mixture control for both cylinder banks

  • Expanded inputs and outputs

  • Two CAN bus interfaces

  • More extensive data logging

  • Enhanced knock control

  • Additional functions for motorsport applications

  • Independent control of suitable sequential transmissions

Thus, the EMU Pro16 forms a powerful basis for extensive street, track day, and motorsport modifications.

Control of all four camshafts

In contrast to the EMU Black, the EMU Pro16 can individually control all four camshafts of the Toyota 2GR V6 engine.

This allows the intake and exhaust camshafts to be precisely tuned to engine speed, load, boost pressure, and other operating parameters. The additional control of the exhaust camshafts enables further optimization of torque curve, power delivery, and combustion temperature.

A correspondingly adjusted camshaft control can also help reduce knock tendency under high engine load.

Two wideband lambda sensors

The kit works with two Bosch wideband lambda sensors. Each cylinder bank is monitored and controlled separately.

The bank-selective lambda control allows for more precise mixture preparation than a system with only one common lambda measurement. Deviations between the two cylinder banks can be detected more accurately and taken into account during tuning.

The integrated short- and long-term closed-loop system can automatically adjust fuel corrections to changing operating conditions.

Complete engine control

The EMU Pro16 takes over the control of the following functions, among others:

  • Fuel injection

  • Ignition timing

  • Electronic throttle

  • Variable adjustment of all four camshafts

  • Wideband lambda control for both cylinder banks

  • Knock control via both standard knock sensors

  • Intake air temperature compensation

  • Boost pressure and load control

  • Rev limit

  • Fan and pump control

  • Variable fuel pump

  • Variable water pump of the Exige 410 and Exige 430 models

  • Lotus-specific air conditioning control

  • Launch control with appropriate configuration

  • Additional motorsport-related features

In vehicles without a suitable intake air temperature sensor, this can be optionally retrofitted depending on the engine configuration.

Preservation of Lotus vehicle functions

A firmware specifically developed by KOMO-TEC enables the integration of the EMU Pro16 into the vehicle electronics of the Lotus Exige V6 and Evora.

The system is designed to retain the following standard functions, among others:

  • Standard Lotus display

  • Displays and control symbols of the standard instrument

  • Cruise control

  • Standard traction control

  • DPM driving dynamics programs

  • Communication with ABS and ESP

  • Air conditioning control

  • OBD communication

  • Existing standard sensors

The exact functionality depends on the vehicle model, model year, transmission configuration, and equipment and must be checked before ordering.

Individual driving programs

The freely programmable control allows for different characteristic maps and vehicle characteristics.

Depending on the vehicle configuration, separate calibrations for the following applications can be programmed, for example:

  • Road and racetrack

  • Dry and wet road

  • Normal, Sport, and Race mode

  • Different fuel qualities

  • Different power levels

  • Customized traction and torque controls

The available switching and the respective functionality are determined vehicle-specifically.

Blip and transmission functions

In vehicles with a manual transmission, an automatic blip function can be programmed. The exact implementation must be coordinated with transmission ratio, speed signals, and vehicle configuration.

In conjunction with a suitable sequential transmission, the EMU Pro16 can also take over the control of a paddleshift system. With a suitably designed configuration, a separate gearbox control unit may be omitted.

These functions are not part of every base software and must be set up according to the vehicle and the installed transmission.

CAN bus and external systems

The EMU Pro16 has two CAN bus interfaces and can communicate with both the Lotus vehicle electronics and suitable external CAN devices.

These include, for example:

  • AiM displays and data loggers

  • MoTeC systems

  • Racelogic systems

  • Additional sensor and expansion modules

  • Motorsport displays

  • ABS and vehicle dynamics systems

  • Paddleshift components

The protocols and communication parameters must be configured according to the system used.

Integrated data logging

The extensive data logging supports the diagnosis, tuning, and monitoring of the engine.

Relevant operating data can be recorded on a USB storage device. This means that a laptop is not permanently required in the vehicle for later evaluation.

Depending on the configuration, the following values can be recorded, among others:

  • Engine speed

  • Load and throttle position

  • Lambda values of both cylinder banks

  • Ignition timing

  • Knock control

  • Camshaft positions

  • Intake air and coolant temperature

  • Fuel corrections

  • Pressures and temperatures of additional sensors

  • Status of driving programs

Robust construction

The control unit meets the requirements of protection class IP65 and is thus protected against dust and water jets. This makes it suitable for demanding operating conditions in track day and motorsport vehicles.

The KT adapter housing is made of impact-resistant PLA and accommodates the adapter board for connection to the standard wiring harness.

Proven in motorsport

The EMU Pro16 has been tested in continuous use in Lotus motorsport since 2022. Since 2023, it serves as the base control unit for the Exige Cup vehicles in the Lotus Cup Europe.

The experiences gained in this process are directly incorporated into the further development of our street, track day, and motorsport applications. This includes, among other things, high-performance conversions such as our EX500+ power levels.

Base software and individual tuning

The control unit is supplied with base software for the selected vehicle model. This base software does not replace individual tuning of a performance-enhanced or technically modified engine.

Installation, commissioning, and individual tuning on our dynamometer are available for an additional charge. Engine software and additional functions can be precisely tailored to the installed components, fuel, and intended use.

Note on pure delivery items

When ordered as a pure delivery item, installation, commissioning, individual tuning, and further programming support are not included.

Comprehensive knowledge in the following areas is required for independent installation:

  • Engine control and mapping programming

  • Vehicle electronics and CAN bus communication

  • Wideband lambda control

  • Engine tuning

  • Diagnostics and data analysis

  • Mechanical and electrical safety testing

Incorrect installation or tuning can lead to malfunctions and severe engine damage.

Required fuel quality

The kit requires at least Super Plus with 98 RON or a higher quality fuel suitable for the respective tuning.

The fuel quality used must correspond to the programmed engine tuning. A lower octane rating can lead to increased knocking tendency and engine damage.

Important approval notice
