Short ratio for Lotus Elise 1ZR/2ZR with EC60-transmission
The short axle ratio was specifically developed for Lotus Elise models from 2011 with Toyota 1ZR or 2ZR engine and EC60 transmission. It replaces the very long stock ratio and provides a significantly more spontaneous and dynamic power delivery in all six gears.
Instead of completely rebuilding the transmission with new gears, the overall ratio is changed by replacing the pinion and ring gear. The individual gear stages remain unchanged, but the shorter axle ratio makes them overall tighter and sportier to use.
A real improvement in driving dynamics
The third generation Elise impresses with its low weight, balanced chassis, and sporty engines. However, the very long stock ratio particularly reduces potential dynamics on winding roads and during track days.
With the shorter axle ratio, the vehicle responds more spontaneously to throttle commands and accelerates more powerfully in every gear. The engine remains lighter in the usable RPM and power range, making the vehicle feel livelier and allowing the available engine power to be used more effectively.
The result is not just a theoretical change, but a clearly noticeable improvement in driving dynamics.
Ratio comparison
Stock axle ratio: 4.29:1
Short axle ratio: 4.93:1
About 15% shorter overall ratio
Calculatively about 15% more drive torque at the wheel
About 13% lower speed at the same engine RPM
With the shorter ratio, the engine RPM increases at the same driving speed. At the same time, the theoretically achievable speed in each gear is reduced accordingly.
All six gears are shorter
Since the overall ratio of the EC60 transmission is changed, the modification affects all six forward gears. The standard gear wheels remain unchanged.
This results in:
Better acceleration in all gears
More spontaneous response behavior
More frequent use of the optimal RPM range
More pull at the corner exit
More lively driving feel
Improved dynamics on country roads and racetracks
A gear diagram illustrating the changed speeds and RPMs is included.

The exact compatibility must be checked before ordering based on vehicle model, year of manufacture, engine type, and transmission version.
High quality – produced in the EU
The bevel and pinion gears are produced with high manufacturing quality within the European Union. Precise gearing, high-quality materials, and careful processing ensure reliable operation and high load capacity.
The axle ratio has been developed for sporty use and is suitable for performance-optimized road vehicles as well as for Lotus Elise regularly used on track days.
Compatible with limited-slip differential
Since the transmission must be opened for the conversion anyway, the short axle ratio can be ideally combined with one of our limited-slip differentials.
A mechanical limited-slip differential additionally improves the power distribution between the drive wheels and reduces slip at the inside wheel during corners. The combination of short axle ratio and limited-slip differential thus offers a particularly effective improvement in acceleration, traction, and drivability.

Important assembly note
For installation, the gearbox must be removed, fully opened, and then properly readjusted. The assembly requires extensive knowledge in gearbox construction and may only be carried out by a qualified specialist company.
After installation, the gearing, tooth flank play, bearing, preload, and all tightening torques must be checked according to the technical specifications.
Important note
With the shorter axle ratio, the engine speed increases at the same driving speed. This can lead to a change in noise development and higher fuel consumption. The theoretical top speed is correspondingly reduced.
