KOMO-TEC performance phase ZR285 for Lotus Elise with 2ZR engine
The KOMO-TEC performance phase ZR285 complements our well-known and successful ZR265 with an even more powerful overall package. It was specifically developed for the Lotus Elise S, Sport 220, and Cup 250 with a 1.8-liter 2ZR supercharged engine.
With approx. 285 HP and 295 Nm, the ZR285 offers an increase of around 65 HP and 45 Nm compared to the stock vehicle. Especially in the mid-range RPM, the additional torque is noticeably felt and provides more powerful acceleration, a more direct response, and a more dynamic power delivery.
Performance data
ZR285: approx. 285 HP and 295 Nm
Stock: approx. 220 hp and 250 Nm according to factory specifications
Power increase: approx. 43 hp
Torque increase: approx. 30 Nm
The specified performance values may vary slightly depending on vehicle condition, fuel quality, environmental conditions, and dyno.
Holistically developed performance package
The Toyota 2ZR engine fundamentally differs from the previously used 2ZZ engine. The 2ZR supercharger system already comes standard with a water-cooled charge air cooler, significantly improving charge air cooling compared to older vehicle concepts.
Further optimization potential exists particularly in the area of the exhaust system, intake, and engine control. The standard exhaust manifold has a comparatively small pipe cross-section and aerodynamically unfavorable pipe lengths.
Therefore, the ZR285 combines a flow-optimized 4-in-1 stainless steel header with a high-quality 200-cell sports catalytic converter from HJS. The optimized standard airbox with sports air filter improves the intake, while the modified charger ratio provides the required compressor performance.
The result is a significantly improved power and torque development with a sporty sound that is not unpleasantly intrusive during normal driving.
Optimized standard airbox with sports air filter
In the ZR285, the standard airbox is specifically optimized and combined with a high-quality sports air filter. This retains the vehicle-specific installation position and the advantages of the standard intake system while improving airflow.
The optimized standard airbox is part of the coordinated overall system and has been taken into account in the individual programming of the engine control unit.
Freely programmable EMU-Black control unit
While the ZR265 operates with the standard engine control unit and a corresponding software optimization, the ZR285 uses a freely programmable EMU-Black engine control unit.
This allows all relevant parameters to be precisely adjusted to the hardware components and the condition of the respective vehicle:
Ignition maps
Injection maps
Camshaft phase adjustment
Intake air temperature compensation
Throttle valve characteristic curve
Wideband lambda control
The wideband lambda sensor enables particularly accurate detection and adjustment of the air-fuel ratio.
Two driving programs: Road and Sport
For the ZR285, two different mappings are created:
Road Mapping
Approximately stock engine performance
Harmonic power delivery for normal driving operation
Use of fuel with 95 octane possible if unavoidable
No release of maximum ZR285 power
Sport Mapping
Full ZR285 power of about 285 hp and 295 Nm
Fuel with at least 98 octane required
More direct and sportier throttle response
Automatic blip function when downshifting
Performance-oriented tuning for sporty driving and racetrack
To access full power, only suitable fuel with at least 98 octane must be used.
Optimal upgrade for existing ZR265 vehicles
The ZR285 is ideally suited as the next upgrade stage for vehicles already equipped with the performance phase ZR265. Existing suitable components can be reused depending on design and condition and supplemented with the freely programmable control unit and the additional required components.
The exact scope of the conversion must be checked in advance based on the already installed components.
Optional expansion of the charge air heat exchanger system
As an additional option, we offer an extension of the existing intercooler circuit. An additional heat exchanger is mounted in the crash box and integrated into the cooling circuit of the water-cooled intercooler.
The additional heat exchanger surface can improve the cooling efficiency of the system. The intake air temperatures can be kept more stable, especially under high continuous load.
We particularly recommend this extension for:
Frequent track day use
Long racetrack sessions
High outside temperatures
Repeated full-load driving
Vehicles with regularly high thermal loads
The extension of the intercooler heat exchanger system is a paid additional option and is not included in the standard delivery of the ZR285.

Installation version including test bench run
When installed in our facility, the professional installation of the components, the individual tuning, and a final test bench run are included in the price.
The determined power and torque values are documented in an individual power diagram.
Note on the shipping kit
The performance phase ZR285 is also available as a shipping kit. In this version, the installation of the components, the individual tuning on our performance test bench, and the test bench run with performance protocol are not included.
Installation, commissioning, and monitoring of all operating parameters must be carried out by a suitably qualified specialist company for the shipping kit. Comprehensive technical and programming knowledge is required for this.
Prescribed sport exhaust
For the performance phase ZR285, the use of a suitable sport exhaust is mandatory. Not all exhausts available on the market are compatible with the system.
The compatibility of the existing or planned exhaust must therefore be checked before ordering.
Important installation and operating note
The performance phase has been developed as a complete system. For the intended performance and reliable operation, all components must be professionally installed and used together with the intended ZR285 tuning.
After the conversion, the fuel supply, air-fuel ratio, boost pressure, charge air temperature, and other relevant operating parameters must be checked.
For high continuous loads and track use, we strongly recommend the optional expansion of the charge air heat exchanger system.
Important approval notice
Motorsport kit – without street approval!
The performance phase ZR285 is not approved for use in public road traffic under the regulations of the StVO/StVZO. It is intended exclusively for motorsport and use on closed tracks.
