KOMO-TEC Toe-Link Kit for Lotus Elise
The KOMO-TEC Toe-Link Kit was developed to specifically reinforce a known weak point of the rear wheel guidance of various Lotus Elise models.
Under increased load – for example, from sports tires, high lateral acceleration, or regular track use – the standard toe links can reach their mechanical limits. A failure can lead to loss of tracking at the rear axle and thus to a severely uncontrollable driving condition.
The KOMO-TEC Toe-Link Kit replaces the standard linkage with a particularly stiff, precisely adjustable, and highly load-bearing construction. This significantly reduces the risk of failure while simultaneously allowing for precise adjustment of the rear axle kinematics.
Four vehicle-specific versions
The Toe-Link Kit is available in four different variants:
| Variant | Vehicle version | Special features |
|---|---|---|
| Elise Mk1 | Vehicles with aluminum axle carrier | Vehicle-specific connection to the aluminum axle carrier |
| Elise Mk2 Rover | Vehicles with Rover engine and steel axle carrier | Cylindrical mounting version |
| Elise with Toyota 2ZZ | Vehicles with 2ZZ engine | Cone bolt on the wheel carrier and additional connecting strut |
| Elise with Toyota 2ZR | Vehicles with 2ZR engine | Cone bolt on the wheel carrier and additional connecting strut |
The versions for 2ZZ and 2ZR vehicles additionally have a connecting strut between the two inner pivot points on the chassis. This stiffens the mounting areas against each other and increases the stability of the entire rear axle construction.
The required vehicle variant must be clearly selected when ordering. A wrong version cannot be properly installed.
High-quality uniball joints from German production
The uniball joints used are manufactured in Germany and were specifically developed for use in suspension components.
The joint heads are made of forged 42CrMo4 steel and offer very high mechanical load capacity. Due to the play-free bearing, track forces can be transmitted precisely without the typical elastic deformations that occur with standard rubber bearings.
The result is a significantly more precise and consistent wheel guidance under load.
Stainless steel tubes with welded threaded inserts
For the tie rods, high-strength stainless steel tubes are used instead of simple solid rods. The threaded inserts are precisely placed into the tubes and orbital welded.
This construction combines high bending and torsional stiffness with a technically optimized component geometry. The welded threaded inserts create a robust connection to the uniball joints while allowing for precise adjustment of the track.
High-strength connecting elements
All screws in the kit meet the strength class 12.9. The connecting parts between the axle carrier and toe link are precision machined from solid aluminum.
All components are designed for high mechanical load capacity and long-term corrosion protection. This kit is suitable for both sportily used street vehicles and demanding track day and motorsport applications.
Precise adjustment of bump steer
In addition to higher operational safety, the KOMO-TEC toe link kit allows for precise adjustment of bump steer.
Bump steer refers to the change in track during compression and rebound. An unfavorable track curve can significantly affect driving behavior:
If the loaded rear wheel goes into toe-out when compressing, the tendency to oversteer may increase.
If the rear wheel goes into toe-in, a stabilizing effect occurs.
At high speeds, an unfavorable setting can worsen straight-line stability.
On uneven roads or when driving over curbs, the rear axle may feel unstable.
During hard braking, an uncontrolled change in alignment can impair driving stability.
The play-free joints, rigid tie rods, and precise adjustability allow the alignment curve to be specifically tailored to vehicle height, suspension setup, and intended use.
Additional stiffening for 2ZZ and 2ZR
The variants for vehicles with Toyota 2ZZ and 2ZR engines are supplied with conical bolts for attachment on the wheel carrier side.
Additionally, a brace connects the two inner pivot points on the chassis. This construction increases the stiffness of the mounting areas and reduces unwanted movements under high loads.
Quality testing and road registration
The mechanical quality and load capacity of the construction have been demonstrated in a testing laboratory. Based on this, a TÜV registration for road use is generally possible.
The actual registration capability depends on the vehicle, the chosen kit version, proper installation, and other installed suspension components. The approval must be carried out by a recognized testing authority for the specific vehicle.

Important assembly and adjustment note
The toe link kit is a safety-relevant suspension component. Installation may only be carried out by a qualified specialist.
Before assembly, axle beams, wheel carriers, mounting points, and all adjacent suspension components must be checked for damage, corrosion, and dimensional accuracy.
After installation, the following are mandatory:
Inspection of all screw connections
Adjustment of the rear axle alignment
Testing and adjustment of bump steer
Complete axle measurement
Check of clearance throughout the entire spring travel
Re-inspection of the fastenings after the prescribed break-in distance
Only a properly installed and precisely adjusted toe-link kit can ensure the intended safety and driving precision.
