ARP2000 Cylinder Head Stud Kit for Toyota 1ZZ-, 1ZR- and 2ZR-engines

The ARP2000 Cylinder Head Stud Kit has been specifically designed for selected Toyota engines of the 1ZZ, 1ZR, and 2ZR series. Compared to the factory cylinder head bolts, it offers significantly higher and more uniform clamping force.

This improves the sealing between the cylinder head, cylinder head gasket, and engine block. This is particularly crucial for performance-enhanced engines, increased boost pressure, and correspondingly higher cylinder pressures.

Fits for

  • Toyota 1ZZ-FE

  • Toyota 1ZR-FE

  • Toyota 1ZR-FAE

  • Toyota 2ZR-FE

  • Toyota 2ZR-FAE

Exact compatibility must be checked before ordering based on engine code and engine version.

High-strength ARP2000 material

The studs are made from the high-performance material ARP2000 developed by ARP. With a tensile strength of around 220,000 psi or approximately 1,517 MPa, they provide exceptionally high safety margins.

This makes the kit particularly suitable for:

  • Performance-enhanced engines

  • Turbocharged applications

  • Increased cylinder pressures

  • Motorsport and track day vehicles

  • Challenging engine rebuilds

  • Engines with increased requirements for head gasket sealing

Improved and uniform clamping force

Unlike a cylinder head bolt, the stud is first positioned in the engine block. The cylinder head is then guided over the studs and secured with nuts.

This design allows for controlled and uniform preload. At the same time, the thread in the engine block is subjected to less stress from rotational movements during tightening.

The higher clamping force supports a reliable seal of the cylinder head gasket and reduces the risk of the cylinder head lifting off the engine block under high combustion pressures.

Reusable design

In contrast to the standard stretch bolts, the ARP cylinder head studs can generally be reused.

However, before each reuse, the studs, nuts, and washers must be inspected according to ARP specifications. Components with damaged threads, corrosion, deformations, or other signs of wear must not be reused.

Torque specifications

The specified tightening torque depends on the lubricant used:

LubricantTightening torque
Supplied ARP assembly lubricant65 ft-lb / approx. 88 Nm
30WT motor oil75 ft-lb / approx. 102 Nm

Only one of the two specified assembly variants may be used. Lubricants and their corresponding tightening torques must not be combined or swapped.

No additional 90° angle

The studs may only be tightened according to the specified torque specifications.

After reaching the specified torque, no additional 90° angle may be applied. The angle tightening method intended for standard stretch bolts does not apply to this ARP2000 stud kit.

Important assembly note

The installation concerns a central connection of the engine and requires extensive knowledge in engine construction. The assembly must be carried out by a qualified engine specialist.

Before installation, all threads in the engine block must be cleaned and checked for damage. Studs, washers, nuts, contact surfaces, and lubricants must be used exactly according to the supplied MWR and ARP assembly instructions.

The nuts must be tightened in the prescribed order and in several even stages to the final torque. In case of doubt, the current manufacturer specifications included with the product take precedence.

Important Note

The ARP2000 stud kit improves the clamping and sealing of the cylinder head, but does not alone generate additional engine power. For performance-optimized engines, the cylinder head gasket, engine block, cylinder head, cooling system, and engine tuning must also be suitable for the intended load.
