Steering gear for Lotus Elise Mk1/Mk2, Exige, 111R and 2-Eleven
This steering gear is optionally available with standard ratio or a more direct 8-tooth ratio. It is suitable both as a replacement for a worn original steering gear and for targeted improvement of the steering response.
Even before the production start of the first Lotus Elise, Lotus developed and tested a version with an 8-tooth pinion. For series production, the less direct variant with a 7-tooth pinion was subsequently chosen, as the originally intended ratio was assessed as potentially too direct for the average driver.
Not suitable for vehicles with ESP.
Versions
Direct ratio with 8-tooth pinion
The direct version offers a more immediate response and a more agile steering feel. With less than 2.5 steering wheel turns from lock to lock, the entire steering range is available.
In our own tests, the direct ratio was particularly convincing during cornering. We did not observe any nervous driving behavior or deterioration in straight-line stability.
Standard ratio with 7-tooth pinion
The version with standard translation is suitable as a replacement for a worn or defective original steering gear and maintains the usual gear ratio.
