Complete rear axle brake caliper overhaul kit for Lotus Elise and Exige S1/S2

The rear calipers of the Lotus Elise and Exige S1/S2 are often affected by age, corrosion, and worn seals. An overhaul has often been complicated by the special original hexagon screws that are difficult to loosen and can break during disassembly.

This complete overhaul kit includes not only the necessary seals and mounting parts for both rear calipers but also newly manufactured replacement screws with a common 4-mm hexagon drive. A suitable special tool for loosening the original Brembo screws is also included.

Complete set for both rear calipers

The kit is assembled for the overhaul of the complete rear axle. It includes two complete seal sets and the additional components needed for both rear brake calipers.

This means that the individual wear and assembly parts do not need to be assembled separately.

Newly manufactured hexagon socket screws

The original brake calipers use hexagon socket screws with an unusual intermediate size. As a result, the screws often cannot be optimally grasped with standard tools.

The replacement screws included in the kit have a common metric 4-mm hexagon socket. This facilitates future maintenance and overhaul work and allows for the replacement of old screws with new fasteners.

Special tool for the original screws

The delivery includes a specially sized tool that allows the original hexagon socket screws to be loosened as precisely as possible.

With heavily corroded or completely rusted screws, breakage cannot be ruled out. The special tool improves the conditions for a successful disassembly, but does not guarantee that every old screw can be removed without damage.

If an original screw breaks during disassembly, suitable replacement parts for the subsequent reassembly are available with the new screws included in the kit.

Important installation note

The overhaul of brake calipers involves safety-relevant components and may only be carried out by a qualified specialist.

Before installation, the brake caliper housings, pistons, cylinder bores, guides, threads, and sealing surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned and checked for corrosion, scratches, wear, and other damage.

Broken or seized screws must be removed professionally, without damaging the threads or brake caliper housing. Brake calipers that can no longer be repaired must not be reused.

After the overhaul, the braking system must be filled with suitable brake fluid, completely bled, and checked for tightness as well as proper function.
